Breathing Easier with Swami Vivekananda Yoga Trust (SVYT)
At Swami Vivekananda Yoga Trust (SVYT), we are dedicated to helping individuals with asthma reclaim their breath and live fuller, healthier lives through the power of yoga. Guided by our founder, Garimilla Srinivas Reddy, we offer specialized programs that strengthen the respiratory system, reduce symptoms, and enhance overall vitality. At SVYT, asthma is not just a challenge to overcome—it’s an invitation to discover the transformative potential of mindful breathing and holistic wellness.
Our Approach to Asthma
Asthma, a condition marked by breathing difficulties and inflammation of the airways, requires a gentle yet effective approach to management. Our yoga-based programs integrate asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, and relaxation practices to improve lung capacity, reduce triggers, and promote respiratory health. These techniques empower participants to breathe more freely and live with greater ease.
Why Yoga for Asthma?
Yoga offers a natural, complementary solution for asthma management by addressing both its physical and emotional dimensions. Scientific studies and yogic traditions highlight how regular practice can alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life. At SVYT, our approach focuses on:
- Enhancing Lung Function: Postures like Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) and Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose) open the chest and strengthen respiratory muscles.
- Regulating Breath: Pranayama exercises, such as Kapalabhati (Skull-Shining Breath) and Ujjayi (Victorious Breath), improve oxygen intake and calm the airways.
- Reducing Stress: Stress and anxiety often trigger asthma attacks; meditation and deep relaxation techniques soothe the nervous system and lower tension.
- Boosting Immunity: Consistent practice strengthens the body’s defenses, helping to minimize allergic reactions and inflammation.
Expert-Led Respiratory Care
Our asthma-focused programs are led by Srinivas Reddy, whose extensive qualifications—M.Sc. in Yoga, Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy (PGDYT), and certification as a Ministry of AYUSH YCB Examiner—underscore his mastery of yoga therapy.
Since starting his yoga journey in 2002, Srinivas has developed a deep understanding of how breathing techniques and mindful movement can support respiratory conditions like asthma. His expertise ensures that every session is safe, tailored, and effective for participants of all ages.
A Legacy of Breath and Healing
From offering free yoga classes in 2008 to founding SVYT in 2012, we have reached nearly 100,000 people, sharing the gift of yoga to improve lives.
